An Atlanta beauty supply store was hit by thieves who took more than $15,000 in hair Friday morning. Surveillance footage captured the two thieves as they broke into the black-owned beauty supply store Zoet Beauty Supply. Before entering the store, the suspects used flashlights to look out the window, potentially in an effort to find a way into the store.
Later, they threw a spark plug at the window, smashing the window and breaking in. Charis McWhorter and Dana Hawkins, co-owners of Zoet Beauty Supply, suspect the pair snooped the store based on how quickly they were able to pick up the items. They got away with over $15,000 worth of supplies within minutes.

“That’s where we think it was targeted or planned or they bought with us before. They came in and immediately went two different ways and they went for expensive things like virgin hair wigs , virgin hair bundles and expensive equipment like clippers and trimmers,” Hawkins described.
Dawkins explained to WAGA that their loss not only affects them as business owners, but affects the community as a whole.

“It’s our way of giving back,” McWhorter says.
“Less than 3% are black owned, but about 99% are supported by black customers, so we wanted to have a representation to show that you can do it too,” Hawkins explained.
Despite the loss, they want to continue their work as a “community beauty store.”
