Oleksandr Zinchenko makes hilarious Kevin de Bruyne admission as Arsenal complete £32m transfer

Oleksandr Zinchenko has jokingly asked Arsenal fans if they knew Mikel Arteta didn’t sign Kevin de Bruyne instead, capitalizing on the long-running joke that the former Manchester City teammates are linked.

The Ukraine international had been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium, and after signing a four-year contract with the north Londoners, he became Edu’s fifth signing of the transfer window.

The 25-year-old joins Gabriel Jesus, Fabio Vieira, Matt Turner and Marquinhos as the Gunners look to avenge last season’s fourth place finish.

But, with Arteta keen to avenge last season’s fourth-place finish, Zinchenko – jokingly – wanted to make sure Arsenal signed the right player.

Speaking to ‘Frimmy’ during his unveiling as Gunner, the Ukrainian joked: “Do they know I’m not De Bruyne? Right now I have to ask because maybe they’re confused. You surprised me, you surprised me a little.

Zinchenko, however, thinks he looks better. He continued: “[The comparison] was only at the beginning. I am much, much, much prettier than him. We’re not talking football skills, but come on, you can’t compare. He knows, he knows.

While at the Etihad Stadium, De Bruyne and Zinchenko made a running joke about being called brothers because of their similar hair style, hair color and facial features. And, for what it’s worth, they’ve had great success together at City.

However, with the Ukrainian now at the Emirates Stadium after a £32m move, Zinchenko is aiming for ‘big things’.

Addressing the official club website, he said, “Thank you very much. First of all, I would like to say that this is a childhood dream come true, as I was a big fan when I was a kid.

“Ever since Thierry Henry and young Cesc Fabregas were playing here, I was just enjoying watching these games, this Arsenal. And obviously I started to like this club, so I’m so excited and looking forward to playing for this incredible club.

Zinchenko continued, “I’m ready for another challenge. I’m not here just to waste my time and that of Arsenal because the club is always in front of everyone.

“I’m here to achieve great things and I hope we can win titles, and I hope we’ll fight for every title we’re going to be involved in. Even since last season I was watching the games of Arsenal and I felt that was happening, you know? The team is growing so fast and I think it’s time. It’s time to give our best and achieve something big.
