Newswise—ROSEMONT, Illinois (DATE) – San Francisco board-certified dermatologist Kenneth Katz, MD, MSc, MSCE, FAAD, has been appointed American Academy of Dermatology Patient Care Heroes for his work leading a national advisory committee to the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that provides advice to the FDA on new therapies to improve the condition of the skin, hair and nails patients and other issues of which the FDA is seized.
Dr. Katz serves as co-chair of the FDA’s Dermatologic and Ophthalmic Drug Advisory Committee, which meets on an ad hoc basis, at the request of the FDA, and advises the FDA on drug safety and efficacy. new and innovative dermatology and any other dermatology-related issues where the FDA believes the advisory committee’s input would be helpful.
“The committee’s practicing dermatologists provide real-world expertise as we treat countless skin, hair and nail conditions every day and understand the implications for patients,” said Kaiser Permanente physician Dr. Katz. in San Francisco. “In some cases, dermatologists across the country can use new treatments to provide life-changing care.”
During his tenure on the committee, Dr. Katz helped evaluate an innovative and now commonly used psoriasis drug, recommending that an effective treatment for acne be made more accessible to patients, establishing a safe timeline for testing treatments for atopic dermatitis in pediatric patients, and much more.
The AAD created the Patient Care Heroes program to recognize physicians who transform the lives of patients by using their expertise and collaborating with other physicians.
