Anna Marie Cardella74, who enjoyed bowling, bingo, playing cards, going to Atlantic City, gardening, sitting in the sun and being with her loving family, died July 21, 2022.

Lorraine Santore Esposito93, a Curtis High School graduate who was a member of the Granito-Smith American Legion Auxiliary, an avid community volunteer and New York Yankees aficionado, died July 20, 2022.

Yesterday’s obituaries

Liliane Goldman, 80, an incredible hairstylist who was a Staten Islander for about 50 years, died July 18. She loved to travel; watching baseball, especially the Yankees; and especially his family. She was a loving mother of six and a doting grandmother of nine.

Bernadette Ruggero, 97, who worked in the city for 32 years, has died. She lived through the Great Depression and did her part during World War II by volunteering her time to make goods for soldiers at the age of 16. She enjoyed creating a home and spending time with her family, especially on family trips. She was a loving mother, a devoted grandmother to seven children, and a doting great-grandmother to ten.

John Varriano, 86, died on July 18. A mechanic in his early years, he then worked for the New York City Port Authority for 35 years. He had a deep passion for machinery, working as a mechanic most of his life. He was a real handyman, renovating his childhood home, and he was always up for a good time, especially when it brought joy to others. He was a loving father of four children, a doting grandfather of six children and a devoted great-grandfather of nine children.

Ralph Zampella, 79, who loved the outdoors and his family, died on July 18. He enjoyed hunting and volunteered as a gunnery officer at the Old Hickory Gun Club in North Carolina. He also enjoyed building and flying U-shaped controlled airplanes. He was a loving husband of 63 years, father of two, grandfather of five, brother of two and uncle of three.
